Diet women (primarily norma- and hypo-estrogens) with amenorrhea after 5 years' of estrogen therapy were randomized into two groups: 1) 100 mg/day genistein or 2) placebo. The quality of life and depressive symptoms were measured at baseline and at 6, 12, and 18 months. The group treated with 200 mg of genistein had improved mood (p < 0.01), sex drive (p < 0.01), energy (p < 0.01), quality of life (p < 0.01), and all five stages of

There was no difference in sex differences in the response to food cues between men and women (P > 0.05). Consistent with studies in adolescents and adults, the most widely reported measure of diet is a 24-hour diet recall (23). As there were no sex differences in 24-hour diet recalls, it was not feasible to estimate a priori the associations between diet and negative change in mood for young adults (24)
